Myth 1: GM FOODS CAUSE CANCER

This fear that GM foods are cancerous stems from a single experiment in which mice were routinely fed herbicide-resistant corn. The study concluded that fifty percent of GM fed male mice died prematurely, as opposed to the thirty percent in the control group.  However, other scientists came to much different conclusions within their own studies and began to question the experiment. Six other scientific academies had issued a rebuttal after concluding that the experiment had insufficent data, poor design, and unclear statistical analysis. The rats in question are also prone to brain tumors as a result of overeating and contaminations within corn.

Myth 2: MONSANTO SUES INNOCENT FARMERS

Myth 3:THE TOXINS IN GMO CROPS WILL HARM YOU

A myth surrounding Monsanto is that they once sued an innocent man whos field happened to contain trace amounts of Monsanto's Round-Up ready seeds.  In actuality, the man intentionally selectively harvested these seeds from the round-up ready crop and planted them all throughout his field.  By repeatedly planting these seeds, he had avoided royalties.  Monsanto does not go after people with trace amounts of GM seeds present in their fields. In fact, they offer a no-charge, peaceful removal service. Read about the judge's decision in the case here.

The toxin within bt-resistant crops IS deadly.. for insects. These toxins were tested and are regulated intensely to ensure that no harm is inflicted upon any species, including humans, other than it is intended to. A Scientific American article explains, "The evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that Bt toxins are some of the safest and most selective insecticides ever used. Claims that Bt crops poison people are simply not true".  There are zero cases linking the toxin to any harmful side effects within humans.

Myth 4:ORGANIC CROPS ARE HARD TO COME BY

Actually, only a handful of GM crops are currently available on the market - the majority of crops are still organic. These crops include squash, papaya, corn, soybeans, cotton, canola, and sugar beets; this is only a very small percentage of the food on the market.  Although GM potatoes, rice, and tomatoes exist and are government-approved, they are not widely available on the market at this time.
